Strengthening the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1540 (2004) for South Asian States
Overview
This webinar series , organised by the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD), aims to provide national representatives of selected South Asian States with an opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of resolution 1540 through a combination of self-paced online training and interactive webinar discussions. The webinar series will connect relevant national stakeholders on 1540-related matters with international and UN experts on the subject in order to facilitate a positive exchange of information.
The event intends to serve as a platform:
- To receive information and expert guidance on the most recent and relevant aspects of the resolution.
- To elaborate on the importance of establishing national Points of Contact for the resolution.
- To share national experiences, international best practices and frameworks for requests for assistance and capacity-building.
- To promote the development of voluntary National Implementation Action Plans.
The webinar-series is part of a larger project that aims to advance the national and sub-regional implementation of UNSCR 1540 (2004) in South Asia, and is the continuation of the previous UNRCPD efforts to support Member States in Asia and the Pacific in this matter.
It is open for participants from five South Asian states+1 to improve implementation of UNSCR 1540: Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Mongolia.

| Objectives and Learning Outcomes: The Resolution 1540 webinar series serves as a resource pool to provide foundational knowledge and expertise. It is designed to strengthen the capacity of those already working towards the implementation of resolution 1540 and increase awareness and understanding of a wider range of audiences. The online course provides an in-depth introduction to the topic through 6 thematic sessions delivered in an interactive manner.Topics covered:

| Language: The course is available in English and is held in the Disarmament Education Dashboard, thus participants need a computer or mobile device, with audio and reliable internet connection. No special software is required. |
